Engaging Teens in Sustained Reading: What, Where, Why, How?

In this workshop, Dr. Li-Lee Tunceren will focus on using fiction in the foreign language classroom to stimulate high schoolers to read not only for increased proficiency but for pleasure and a greater understanding of the human spirit.  Specifically, she’ll share her experiences – both successes and challenges  – in teaching reading in a bilingual education program in Hungary.  Besides describing some of the materials and methods used in her classes, she will encourage attendees to suggest additional texts and ways of teaching them to ensure that all participants leave with novel approaches to adopt and adapt for their own students.
